Relevant trends and technologies for increasing cybersecurity
The last 18 months have been marked by a massive digitization push, accompanied by a rise in cyber threats that society is increasingly unable to cope with. Lower barriers to entry for cyber threats, more aggressive attack methods, a 435% increase in ransomware by 2020, a global shortage of around 3 million cybersecurity professionals, and patchy governance mechanisms further exacerbate the risk. Unless we act to improve digital trust through targeted and sustained trust-building initiatives, the digital world will continue to drift toward fragmentation. This digital fragmentation not only affects the global economy. It also threatens companies’ long-term growth prospects and innovation strategies, and could result in the opportunities of one of the most dynamic eras of human progress being lost.
