The Challenge
Eraneos were brought in to work with a railway industry customer who had high operating costs and negative earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT). The company had an uncoordinated approach to implementing IoT use cases and was using many different solutions from different vendors, which was resulting in a clustered architecture. On top of this, analytics ideas were unstructured with no process on how to implement or measure the results. Governance and responsibility were also unclear. It was our job to implement some tried and tested measures in the hope we could turn this company’s fortunes around.
The approach
We got to work by implementing an organizational setup of an asset intelligence center with internal and external experts. We did this through a central IoT platform, which was able to store asset data on things such as locos and wagons while also creating analytics dashboards with reporting features in a bid to enable process changes.
Besides the asset intelligence center, we created a structured methodology for use case development alongside reporting for progress and business impact to offer the company a form of performance measurement. Support was also given to the internal analytics team in the form of training.
The result
Not long after the railway organization had begun working with Eraneos, it had an internal analytics team up and running, a central IoT platform was in place and the company was successfully making use of structured data in the form of preparation and documentation.
As a result, the company saw several use cases go live with over 500 users. It was, overall, a very successful business transformation.
Let’s create sustainable change together.
