Defining Over-the-Air Functions for a Global Automotive OEM to Manage an Autonomous Vehicle Fleet

Creating foundational layers so a global automotive OEM can monitor and control a fleet of autonomous driving vehicles

The Challenge

Eraneos asked to help a global automotive OEM to define and set up an autonomous driving control center where it could monitor and interact with autonomous vehicles. It became apparent that a SAFe structure was required for internal- as well as joint- autonomous driving development.

Enabling the monitoring and controlling of autonomous vehicles by design

The approach

To get started on this project, we knew we had to define the essential layers for setting up an autonomous driving control center, such as the platform layer, the OTA services, and the cybersecurity concept.

Workshops with internal and external stakeholders were created where we could discuss possible use cases and derive requirements and processes for control center functions. Next, we defined the edge device hardware that would be used and how these devices would integrate with vehicles as well as the virtual driver system.

The result

Eraneos’ work on this project resulted in clearly defined over-the-air services with a functional and technical requirement definition. UI/UX requirements were completed successfully for control center screens as well as defining their roles and responsibilities. On top of this, we rolled out a delineation of development responsibilities between engineering, autonomous driving software, and IT for the OEM.

Let’s create sustainable change together.
