The challenge
At Nictiz, multiple teams work on a wide range of programmes and national initiatives. However, there was limited overall visibility, and the connection between strategy and execution was not always clear. As a result, effective collaboration was sometimes challenging and it was difficult to steer efforts toward the right priorities.
Management and team leads wanted greater insight and clearer ownership, enabling them to guide initiatives more effectively and focus on delivering results.
The approach
Together with Eraneos, Nictiz decided to adopt the Obeya method. Obeya is a form of visual management in which goals, workload and progress are made visible on boards in a central space in the office. During weekly sessions, facilitated by a dedicated moderator, bottlenecks were discussed and decisions were made. This allowed everyone to clearly see what was happening and where the priorities lay.
Eraneos supported Nictiz throughout every step of the process, from introducing the Obeya concept to setting up the space and training the teams. This ensured that the new way of working was broadly embraced across the organisation.
The approach has since been rolled out to multiple teams. The “Obeya room” has become the central place where information is shared and where collaboration and decision-making take place.
