From data science to AI engineering: ITvitae builds for tomorrow’s labor market

Rebuilding the data science curriculum of ITvitae into a five-module AI Engineering track.

Year: 2026 Impact Story

ITvitae upgrades its data science and data engineering programs into a full AI Engineering curriculum.

The labor market moved faster than the curriculum could follow. ITvitae’s Data Science and Data Engineering program had a strong track record, but employers now hire for people who can work with large language models, ground them in company data, and run agents safely in production. Eraneos helped ITvitae rebuild the second half of its nine-month track around that shift, without touching the method that makes the program work.

From a strong foundation to a shifting demand

ITvitae’s existing program delivered real outcomes: participants built pipelines, modeled data, and moved into sustainable jobs. But the skills employers ask for had changed, and generative AI tooling had matured to the point where a coherent AI Engineering path became teachable rather than a moving target. The question was not whether to modernize, but how to do it without adding chaos to a format built for candidates with autism, AD(H)D, or high intellectual ability.

The new program had to answer three questions: which AI Engineering skills employers actually hire for, how those skills build on the existing data foundation, and how to teach them within ITvitae’s didactic method. That last constraint mattered most, as the intensive, small-group format, official certifications, and job placement guarantee are not optional extras. They are the reason this route works for candidates other programs failed.

Five modules, each building on the last

The second half of the track now runs as five sequential trainings:

  1. GenAI basics – introduces prompting and closes with deploying an LLM as an API
  2. Advanced GenAI – adds Retrieval Augmented Generation, building an AI application with the LangChain SDK
  3. Basic AI agents – the basic lessons move participants from chat platforms to autonomous agents that call functions and connect to external APIs using asynchronous programming
  4. Advanced AI agents – this part covers multi-agent systems and a deep introduction to Claude
  5. AgentOps – closes the path with production monitoring, agent plugins, and structured output, the layer that separates a demo from a deliverable using Claude Code

Throughout, small groups stayed small, peer learning stayed intact, and student counselors and coaches kept building self-confidence and employee skills alongside the technical curriculum. What changed was the depth of what participants can build and deploy by graduation.

An AI Engineering curriculum, ready for employer demand

ITvitae now offers a coherent five-module AI learning path that creates production-oriented skills: deploying an LLM as an API, grounding it in organizational data, building and guardrailing agents, and monitoring them in production. Data engineering foundations remain the base the AI layer stands on. The curriculum now maps directly to the roles companies are hiring for, strengthening ITvitae’s Data and Engineering specialization in Amersfoort.

The first trainees completed the AI Engineering track with an average post-training assessment score of 80%, confirming they can deploy, ground, and monitor Claude-based agents in production. The program is now live, with the first cohort graduated.

Importantly, the AI Engineering track is built on Claude, a production-grade platform for teaching the full spectrum of modern AI development skills. Claude’s extended context window allows students to experiment with long-document processing and complex multi-step reasoning tasks, while its strong performance in code generation and debugging makes it an excellent companion for teaching software development practices. Additionally, Anthropic’s emphasis on AI safety and its Constitutional AI approach provide valuable teaching opportunities around responsible AI development increasingly demanded by employers and regulators alike.

"The team at Eraneos helped us build a powerful curriculum. Their dedication to our students ensures they enter the workforce well-prepared and confident."

About ITvitae

ITvitae offers ICT training programs, including job placement, for young people with autism or high intellectual ability, and for anyone who benefits from its teaching methodology and support. In Amersfoort, candidates can specialize as a Cyber Security Specialist, Data AI Engineer, Java Software Developer, or Cloud AI Engineer. In Eindhoven, candidates can specialize as a Technical Software Engineer. Through nine-month training programs in small groups, ITvitae combines official certification with personal guidance, from the classroom through the first steps into sustainable employment.
